Wills Furniture – Visually Stunning, Ultimate in Comfort.

At Wills Furniture we get to create some visually stunning pieces of furniture. This week we feature two such items, each from a different designer.

The first is an absolutely beautiful antique chair. The Wills team have recovered and reupholstered this chair in its original style with traditional diamond buttoning and hand carved cabriole legs. The Fabric as depicted is from Seneca Fabrics, Osborne and Little ‘Curio’ – coded F7017-01. A wonderful and comfortable chair that will again provide a lifetime of further enjoyment. – The fabric selection and brief were provided by Newham Interiors of 132 Cotham Rd, Kew.

Our second piece is exquisite. Prepared for a client in Toorak by Moni Kutt Interior Design, this sofa – a Stratford from the Wills Collection – has been upholstered in a Warwick Classic Jacquards Collection fabric Vibe col. Porcelain.
The Stratford sofa pictured here is 2300mm long and features a hand tied coil spring seat, walnut polished Victorian Ash floating plynth and Luxura memory foam seat cushion with feather back cushions. Quite seriously, this verges on the ultimate in comfort.

It’s vitally important that clients choose a designer or decorator who can interpret your vision and your designer for comfort and style in a simple, understated manner – or if you choose brash and exciting – it’s your choice.

What an interior designer does: A designer envisions, plans and outfits spaces in a way that makes them both beautiful and functional. He or she balances aesthetic considerations with structural planning to reflect the clients’ lifestyle, set the desired mood, complement the home’s architectural features, and ensure that less glamorous details (like electrical outlets and air vents) fit into the scheme. An interior designer also cultivates relationships with trusted artisans, vendors and others who execute the design.

When to hire one: You may have a clear vision for your home, but an interior designer can help you bring it to life while making sure it satisfies nitty-gritty considerations such as space planning. A trained eye and a creative mind-set allow for devising solutions that you might never have imagined, and attention to the tiniest details will transform your space into a haven that looks polished and complete.

What it will cost: Interior designers have various fee structures. They might charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of total project costs. You may also be asked to pay a retainer before work begins.

If you’re on a set budget, don’t assume that hiring a designer is beyond reach. Many will be happy to arrange a few hours of consulting or will help you source furnishings and decorative accents.

Please feel free to contact us at Wills Furniture either by phone on 03 9815 0111 or through our contact form and we can assist in recommending a broad range of Interior Designers and Decorators.

This week we feature the Venice Chair from the Wills Collection. The chair has been dressed and finished in fabrics chosen by Tigger Hall Design and features fabric from Kathryn Ireland’s Collection. It is called Safi Suzani in the colour Autumn.

The Venice Chair is often paired with the Venice Sofa. Featuring a solid hardwood frame, hand tied coils seat springs and beautiful French polished hand turned legs, the Venice series is finished with brass castors.

With both traditional and contemporary furniture the addition of Ottomans provides a further dimension in both comfort and visual appeal. The Ottoman adds grace and elegance to any space with a practical element all approve of – comfort.

Pictured here is the traditional diamond buttoned Ottoman from the Wills Furniture Collection. Order custom designed Ottomans in any size or shape in fabric or leather as chosen by you and your selected designer or decorator.

The Ottoman has a rather interesting and unique history having been introduced into Europe from the Ottoman Empire in the late 18th Century. In the Ottoman Empire, the ottoman , as we have come to know it was the central item of furniture for seating and often were piled high with cushions. In Europe it was adopted as fitted furniture wrapped around 3 walls of a room. Ottomans became circular or octagonal as we now see them today during the 19th Century.

The Wills Furniture French Provincial Selection

French Provincial style is increasingly popular with many new homes in suburbs such as Canterbury, Kew, Deepdene, Balwyn and Doncaster being seen to adopt this rather unique style.

And in keeping with authenticity, many people now seek reproduction furniture from the era of Louis XIII through to Louis XIV to complete their penchant for the period and its design elements.

The Wills Furniture French Provincial Furniture Collection offers a unique and simply beautiful link to this ornate of all times. The Louis XIII style or Louis Treize was a fashion period in French Architecture and Design influencing all decorative style and art of that time. Louis XIII reigned from 1610 to 1643, it was during this period that luxury furniture was introduced into France, resulting in a more elegant mode of living. There were very strong influences from Germany, Spain and particularly Italy.

Furniture during this period was large, austere and featured low backs which were either square or had greater width than height. The legs were often columnar, knobbed, baluster or spirally turned legs resting on small bun feet.

From Our Collection

Classic Louis XIII French Provincial Settee

This rather beautiful settee is available in any custom size with option of a fitted back or loose back cushion. It has an exquisite hand carved American Cherry timber frame and can be finished in any colour selected with patina distressing and a waxed finish or a painted or washed finish.Genuine comfort is achieved with sumptuous feather down cushions and a hand tied coil spring back. It is finished in fine double piping detail.

Louis XIV was known as the Sun King, he reigned from 1660 until 1720. His reign saw a style of unparalleled splendour. It was his belief that his home – the Palace of Versailles should reflect the glory, power and wealth of the monarchy in its furniture decor and grounds.

Louis XIV Chair

Last week we looked at a Bergere chair, slightly modified. The Louis XIV Bergere chair in our selection has a hand carved frame from American Cherry, with a highly polished finish. It features a traditional French style jute webbed seat and is superbly comfortable with its deep seat and sumptuous feather down cushion.

To finish off this week we take a look at the Charles II Carver Chair

Charles II Carver Chair

Another popular reproduction chair is this classic chair from the Charles II of England period with hand turned spindle legs and stretcher rails. The timber frame can be made from American Cherry or European Beech with the choice of a polished or painted finish. The elegant high back and hand tied, coil sprung seat ensure comfort. The Charles II carver chair style features carved and shaped arms and a generously proportioned seat on turned and carved legs joined by a turned or carved front stretcher.
