French Provincial style is increasingly popular with many new homes in suburbs such as Canterbury, Kew, Deepdene, Balwyn and Doncaster being seen to adopt this rather unique style.
And in keeping with authenticity, many people now seek reproduction furniture from the era of Louis XIII through to Louis XIV to complete their penchant for the period and its design elements.
The Wills Furniture French Provincial Furniture Collection offers a unique and simply beautiful link to this ornate of all times. The Louis XIII style or Louis Treize was a fashion period in French Architecture and Design influencing all decorative style and art of that time. Louis XIII reigned from 1610 to 1643, it was during this period that luxury furniture was introduced into France, resulting in a more elegant mode of living. There were very strong influences from Germany, Spain and particularly Italy.
Furniture during this period was large, austere and featured low backs which were either square or had greater width than height. The legs were often columnar, knobbed, baluster or spirally turned legs resting on small bun feet.
