Wills Furniture for Contemporary Design Modern Living

Most people select furniture to last a lifetime. Combined with the look, the feel and the comfort, when a decision has to be made, it’s not unusual to call in an expert. Interior Designers, Interior Decorators and Architects will all offer genuine advice, practical experience and access to quality crafted, hand-made traditional and contemporary upholstered furniture. The Wills Collection for many Designers and Decorators is the starting point. Wills Furniture simply sets the standard – on quality, craftsmanship and appearance.

The Wills Collection has been generated over 80 years. It provides a range of furniture suitable for restored and re-developed period homes as well as items admirably suited for contemporary design and modern living.

The Monterey

The Monterey can be configured as a single sofa or a modular suite. With a solid hardwood frame, polished oak feet, Luxura memory foam cushions, the unit pictured above has been upholstered in Warwick Dolce Graphite Velvet providing the ultimate in comfort and style. We have also included a catalogue shot here for your viewing.

The Clivedon by Anna Spiro Design of Brisbane

The Clivedon is actually from our Classic Sofa Collection but here it is dressed in a very contemporary style. Anna Spiro Design of Brisbane have taken this classically designed sofa and had it upholstered in refreshing ‘carnival green’ from the Christopher Farr Cloth Fabrics Collection.

The Sofa is set in the sunroom of a house in the inner Brisbane suburb of Bardon. The fabric selected is an outdoor rated fabric specifically manufactured to protect against sun damage, as are the fabrics used on the ottoman and chairs.

The Clivedon is an Edwardian inspired design with clean lines, an upholstered square back and square fitted arms. Pictured here the sofa features polished legs with castors and seat cushions of leather wrapped foam.

The Saville

In contemporary settings consider also the sleek modern lines of the Saville Sofa. With fully sprung seat and back, luxurious feather/down wrap cushions and foam bolsters, this elegant design is finished with Victorian Ash polished legs.

No matter what your requirements are, the Wills Collection provides a perfect base for all upholstered furniture design placements. If required, the Wills team of craftsmen and upholsterers can create customisations to your Interior Designer or Decorator’s prescription and requirements.

The Wills Collection – A Timeless Beauty

The Auburn Wing Chair is a classic chair we offer in the Wills Furniture Collection. The chair featured has been upholstered and dressed in a fabric from Morris and Co, called Tulip. Client Newham Interiors selected this classic print for this beautiful chair, to be incorporated into the design of their client’s unique period home in Camberwell.

The Adelaide Sofa and Macquarie Wing Chair by Wills Furniture

The Wills Collection offers timeless beauty. Over the years the well known Warwick Fabrics have selected various Wills pieces for both photo shoots and displays in promoting their excellent range of Fabrics. The sofa featured in this photo taken at Melbourne’s Cigar Room is called the Adelaide Sofa and it is set off and accompanied by a Macquarie Winged Chair. Warwick Fabrics have achieved an overall warm and inviting design using a luxurious checked woollen fabric in upholstering both the sofa and the custom designed Ottoman featured. A vibrant velvet in a rich shade of vermillion red sets off the decor of their finished room.

Warwick also featured a bespoke sofa from the Wills Collection at their display showroom located in Collingwood for some time. A larger sofa of 3000mm length – it was of a contemporary design, regular and rectangular. The unit was upholstered in Warwick Fabrics’ Hockney fabric, in the colour designated Fuschia creating a stunning piece of furniture.

The Laguno Sofa and Ottoman by Wills Furniture

The Laguno Sofa, a popular design from the Wills Collection also featured for a time at the Warwick Fabrics Showroom, back in 2016. Finished in Thomas Langham Leather the Sofa was accompanied by a matching Laguno Ottoman utilising a Warwick Fabric called Bainbridge. The result was most impressive.

Furniture created by Wills from our extensive Wills Collection has that timeless feel. It retains its looks, comfort and quality for a lifetime. It gives the feel of real quality to the touch and is matched by quality design to the eye. And, of course, it is supremely comfortable.

Interior Designers and Decorators can select the Wills Furniture piece that best suits their design, assured of quality workmanship, the finest materials and the perfect finish. They can select the fabrics or leathers of their choice as well as ask for specific customisations to suit the look and dimensions of their client’s home and the unique designs planned.

Custom Design at its Finest – The Verona Ottoman

Wills Furniture specialise in completing upholstered furniture pieces for interpretive interior designers. Recently we had the pleasure of creating a diamond buttoned Ottoman for a client of Leigh Ellwood Interior Design. Their client resides in a luxury high rise apartment in South Yarra.

Verona Ottoman

The Ottoman was upholstered and covered in leather from Contemporary Leathers. Called ‘Verona’, the colour selected is known as Tarragon. The Verona Ottoman [link] complements the contemporary design of the client’s apartment, located in a multi level block.

It’s always important that clients find the Interior Decorator or Designer that can comfortably reflect their own vision and style. Here are a few further tips from Houzz magazine…

Collect samples. Even if you have trouble articulating your desired look, pictures of rooms you love can instantly give the designer a sense of what you crave. He or she will ask you about specific points of the design that resonate with you and use those as guidelines. Fabric swatches, paint chips, furniture catalogs and your own Houzz ideabooks are other good sources for showing items you like. On the flip side, pull examples of colours, motifs and furniture styles that turn you off, which can be equally helpful.

Decide in advance which pieces must stay. Not willing to get rid of your Biedermeier sideboard or your majolica collection? The process will go more smoothly if you share that information with your designer during the initial site visit and consultation. That way, he or she can plan around the items that you don’t want to give up.

Harmony 1-crop

Involve the designer as early as possible in the building process. If you’re remodelling or building from scratch, include the designer in the planning stages with your architect and contractor. This way, the pros involved will all be on the same page and can iron out any potential discrepancies — particularly those that involve the bones of a home, such as doorways, ceiling beams or interior columns. It’s one thing to reorient a window on paper; it’s another entirely to move it after installation.

Try to have all household members present at the outset. Having everyone’s input from the get-go helps to avoid potential conflicts down the road. If a spouse or loved one objects to a certain colour or reveals that he or she just can’t part with Granny’s antique dining table, it’s easiest to work out those issues right away.

Ask the designer to clarify billing procedures. Find out at the beginning when you’ll be charged and what for. In addition to the design itself, you may be billed for travel time, site visits, shopping, phone conversations and more. This way, you’ll be able to anticipate fairly closely what and when to pay.
