The Louis XIII style or Louis Treize was a fashion in French art and architecture, influencing decorative style and art. Louis X111 reigned from 1610 to 1643 and during this period foreign luxury furniture was introduced into France, resulting in a more elegant mode of living with influences from Germany and Spain and an invasion of Italian style. Furniture in this period was large and austere and featured low backs which were either square or of greater width than height. The legs were sometimes columnar, knobbed, baluster or spirally turned legs resting on small bun feet.

Classic Louis X111 French provincial settee
The settee is available in any custom size with the option of a fitted back or loose back cushion. It has a beautiful hand carved American Cherry timber frame and can be finished in any selected colour with patina distressing and wax finish or a painted or washed finish. Superior comfort is achieved with sumptuous feather down cushions and a hand tied, coil sprung back. Fine double piping detail.

Louis XIV, the Sun King reigned from 1660 to 1720 and the style during his reign was one of unparalleled splendour. He believed his home (Versailles Palace), furniture and décor should reflect the glory, power and wealth of the monarchy.

Louis X1V Bergere chair
This splendid chair has a frame hand carved in American Cherry timber and is highly polished. It features the traditional French style jute webbed seat and is divinely comfortable with its deep seat and sumptuous feather down cushion.

Charles 11 Carver chair
Another reproduction chair is this classic chair from the Charles 11 of England period with hand turned spindle legs and stretcher rails. The timber frame can be made from American Cherry or European Beech with the choice of a polished or painted finish. The elegant high back and hand tied, coil sprung seat ensure comfort. The Charles II carver chair style features carved and shaped arms and a generously proportioned seat on turned and carved legs joined by a turned or carved front stretcher.

The highly polished balloon back with padded seat and arms and featuring double piping detail lends an air of elegant grace.  The timber frame is made from low grain Beech which, once polished, leaves a smooth, uniform finish.

The Florida
This unique, armless style chair with firm spring seat features a wing back and plump feather cushioning to sink into.  It is handsomely finished with a polished timber base and legs. Strength is assured with a hardwood frame.

The Kerferd
Popular occasional armchair with sleek, top stitched arms. Divinely comfortable with its sprung, tight fitted back and sumptuous, feather combination seat cushion. Fine, polished timber legs complete the design.  This is an ideal, comfortable chair in an interior design with minimal space for seating, due to its finer proportions.

The Madrid

Columbia

This classic winged chair with scroll arm splayed out with piped facing detail and pleated roll edge boasts a high wing back with sprung lumbar support. Beautifully finished with polished Tasmanian Hardwood Oak legs and stretcher rails. Not only stylish but supremely comfortable with sumptuous feather combination seat cushioning.  A matching footstool is an option.

The Kooyong

A high backed wing chair with adjustable sprung lumbar support to ensure extreme comfort features a unique styled scroll arm with top facing broad rounded front. The traditional webbed seat has  sumptious feather cushions.  Cabriole legs are hand shaped and highly polished Victorian Mountain Ash timber.

The Macquarie

This is another classic wing chair and was one of the original designs created by the Wills Family and has been a consistent, unchanged design for over forty five years.  It has infact become one of the most popular pieces in the Wills Furniture Collection. It is available with polished Tasmanian Hardwood Oak legs and stretcher rails or the option of full length, pleated, tailored skirts.

 

The Oxford

A scroll arm armchair with loose, separate feather seat cushions and back cushion for a relaxed yet luxuriant look.  It features the traditionally upholstered roll front edge and is finished with polished hardwood timber legs and castors or the option of tailored skirts.

This delightful chair is fully sprung with a traditional, stitched, rolled edge and finished with hand turned, highly polished legs with castors.  To complete the picture, add the matching footstool.   Although offered in standard sizing, non-standard modifications to suit specific comfort requirements are available.

Sheffield Chair

The design is similar to the popular Adelaide chair with several design alterations setting this chair apart.  It is scooped through the claw style arms and a finer sprung front edge enables the fitting of a larger, more sumptuous feather/fibre combination cushion.  It also has a sprung fitted back and is finished with polished, turned and tapered timber legs with the option of having castors. The matching sofa, The Sheffield Sofa gives a contemporary twist to a Victorian era inspired design. The core armed sofa has a fine profile front edge with a dome sprung back.  It has the option of polished turned legs, with or without castors, or a tailored skirt finish. It boasts luxurious, sumptuous, large feather fibre seat cushions.

Many chairs in the Wills Classic Chairs Collection have the option of tailored skirts, which can be put to effective use in a room with a number of chairs and tables.  Too many legs can give a room a nervous look, the placement of a few skirted chairs softens the look and calms the space.
